As a useful supplement to art education, extramural art education plays an increasingly important role. As more and more children enter into various kinds of art-school educational institutions nowadays, there is a growing influence of art school educational institutions. Indeed, extramural art education is a crucial complement to school art education because it is an important part of children’s art education. However, there lacks profound information and materials about the quality, size, teachers, teaching, especially the curriculum of these institutions. Therefore, it is difficult to evaluate the value, role, impact and the mutual relations between school art education and educational institutions,.Children’s art training institutions in the main districts of Chongqing are set as the research object in this thesis. Exploring from the aspects of the form of institutions, educational philosophy, teachers, the attitude of the parents, with a focus on the investigation on curriculum, this thesis carries out an in-depth study on the course structure, content, timing, implementation of curriculum, and the teaching evaluation of these art training institutions. It is found that there are some advantages of the children’s art training institutions in this region. To be exact, it is featured by creativity in the curriculum philosophy, the diversity in content, advancement in its implementation, and the continuity on student learning, which has been widely accepted by the parents.However, there are also some disadvantages: the curriculum structure is irrational, the content arrangement seems somewhat arbitrary, too much emphasis is laid on teaching materials in the process of teaching, and the curriculum implementation and evaluation do not go along well with social development. It is analyzed that the main factors which influence the curriculum can be traced from the aspects of the market, the teachers and the parents.Therefore, a few suggestions are proposed based on factors affecting institutional curriculum. First, the institutions should borrow the curriculum standard from school art curriculum so as to build a reasonable curriculum structure. Meanwhile, focus should be put on improving the quality of teachers and integrating the teacher resources. Finally, spare no effort to change the parents’ idea about art and improve their literacy in art.
