With the rapid development of economy in China, it has an increasing demand towards the practical talents with high technological content. Therefore, the higher requirements are proposed with respect to vocational education. The mathematics education plays an important function of cultivating the vocational students’ mathematics literacy in the secondary vocational school. Faced with the needs of the era development, the adjustment needs to be constantly deepened in the secondary vocational school owing to the emergence of new changes in terms of the vocational students’ structure. Currently, the secondary vocational school is divided into the entrance class and employment class. In the process of mathematics teaching, the systematic research and comparison should be conducted for these students in two different classes with the purpose of completely developing each student’s potential in the education and teaching as much as possible. This paper aims to make survey and comparative study of secondary vocational school students in class of higher education and class of employment in view of self-determination and intrinsic motivation in mathematics learning, analyze the difference of students in class of higher education and class of employment in each dimension in terms of self-determination and intrinsic motivation based on literature review and questionnaire survey, and discuss the causes for such difference so as to put forward suggestions for secondary vocational students in mathematics learning. Survey results show that:(1) In the process of learning mathematics, both studying class students and employment class students have forced to study. Employment class students have less control than the studying class students. When learning mathematics, employment class students worry a lot than studying class students. (2) Studying students are not sure of their self-awareness, they are more inclined to be controlled by external factors. Self-determination and intrinsic motivation levels are low when vocational students are learning mathematics, school students barely reach the middle level. (3) Vocational students realize the importance of learning mathematics, but they have pressure to learn mathematics. Furthermore, employment class students behave more tense and uneasy when learning mathematics. (4) Vocational school students show a contradictory side in self-determination theory perspective and perception and there is a deviation of the estimate itself. (5) Employment classes of students show significant imbalance when learning mathematics, between self-determination and the dimensions of intrinsic motivation levels. And we can see differentiation bipolar trend.According to the investigation results, the suggestions are put forward: (1) To strengthen the guidance of learning methods and learning significance. (2) To cultivate the students’ self-confidence and perseverance in mathematics learning. (3) To stimulate the internal motivation of students. (4) To pay more attention to the teaching of basic knowledge.
