| With the development of curriculum reform, the English teaching in primary school is confronted with some new challenges. In fact, there do exist some problems both in teaching and learning which the traditional teaching mode might not solve thoroughly. For example, most students are lack of interest in English learning and the students’ autonomous learning ability is not strong. As a new teaching mode, the flipped classroom teaching mode provides a new concept and method for further curriculum reform. The flipped classroom teaching mode is different from the traditional teaching mode in that it encourages the students to make their own pace in learning knowledge before class. Instead of teaching knowledge in class, the teacher organizes activities to help students complete the internalization of knowledge by themselves. The flipped classroom is widely used in foreign countries, but the implementation of the flipped classroom in our country is limited, especially in primary school. The purpose of this thesis is to explore whether the flipped classroom teaching mode is feasible to English learning in primary school. Three research questions are addressed as follows: ?Is the flipped classroom teaching mode helpful to arouse primary school students’ English learning interest? If yes, to what extent? ?Does the flipped classroom teaching mode have a positive effect on the development of primary students’ English autonomous learning ability? If yes, in what aspect? ? Compared with the traditional English teaching mode, can the English flipped classroom teaching mode be more effective in improving primary students’ English proficiency? The experiment lasts for ten weeks. The participants are 82 students from Grade Six in Liaohua primary school in Panjin. They are randomly selected as the experimental class and the control class respectively. The students in the experimental class are taught under the flipped classroom teaching mode, while the students in the control class are under traditional classroom teaching mode. The data are collected by means of the questionnaire, interview and test. The results are analyzed by SPSS. The results of the experiment show that the flipped classroom teaching mode can significantly improve primary students’ English learning interest. The autonomous learning ability of the students is enhanced, especially in learning motivation, learning time, learning method, learning achievements and innovation ability. As a result, students’ English proficiency has significant improvement. Therefore, it is feasible to apply the flipped classroom teaching mode in primary school English teaching. |
