Nowadays, with the development of society, English learning is becoming more and more popular in the world. Learning English at young ages has also become a trend. However, because of the amount of vocabulary and complicated grammar, English learning is difficult for Chinese students, and some of them have even lost the interest of it. This phenomenon is quite common in primary school. Therefore, it is necessary for teachers to study how to arouse the students’ learning interest and improve efficiency by finding a suitable way in English teaching in primary school. It is hoped that the Story Teaching Method can be helpful to solve these problems. There are some studies about Story Teaching Method in terms of English teaching. However, there are few studies on the application of Story Teaching Method to English teaching in primary school. Therefore, the author does the research to put this method into application in English teaching in primary school. Through the experiment, the author discusses the following two questions:(1) Can Story Teaching Method arouse students’ interests in learning English?(2) Can Story Teaching Method improve students’ English proficiency?The experiment is carried out in Chaoyang No.5 Primary School in Liaoning Province. Students are from two classes in Grade 5. Class 1 serves as control class and Class 2 is set as experiment class. There are forty students in each class. The research lasts 18 weeks, which is from September, 2015 to January, 2016. The teaching material is Fun with English. The only difference is that the teacher uses the Story Teaching Method in experiment class and uses traditional teaching method in control class. During the experiment, the author uses some instruments: questionnaires, tests, interview and SPSS.According to the results of data analysis, Story Teaching Method can arouse students’ interests in learning English and improve students’ English proficiency. Therefore, it is feasible to apply the Story Teaching Method in primary school English teaching. However, because of some limitations, it is hoped that the experiment can be further researched in English teaching in China. At last, it is hoped that teachers and researchers can pay more attention to the further research according to the practical situation to provide more creative and practical advice for the Story Teaching Method in the future.
