Primary school phase is an important one,in which students can be helped to cultivate a good English learning habit,to take a correct attitude towards English learning and to gain confidence to learn English well.In primary school English teaching, the teacher can adopt the story-teaching model to create proper instructional activities that are close to their lives and to better realize positive interactions between the teacher and the students. This can also satisfy students' learning curiosity, activate their English learning interest and ultimately promote their learning initiative so that a firm basis may be established for their future English learning.Empirical study and questionnaire are adopted in the research in order to explore the practical applications of the story-teaching model in primary school English teaching. Two parallel classes of 105 students in Grade four in Shijiazhuang Foreign Language Primary School are chosen as the experiment subjects, with one as the class of the experiment and the other as the control group. The story-teaching model and the traditional lecturing method are adopted for the experiment.Questionnaire survey on students' English learning interest and their academic results in the same period are collected as research data for the analysis into the effects of different teaching models on their English learning interest and their academic results. It is revealed from the research results that in primary school English teaching, the story-teaching model has a positive effect on both students' learning interest and their academic results.Meanwhile, the research results are also gathered and compared. And the corresponding suggestions for practical applications of the model are proposed, together with some discussions about the shortcomings of the research. The major conclusions of the study are as follows:First, under different teaching models, primary school students' English learning interest and their English academic results show significant differences, with the story-teaching model leading to a significantly better performance. This shows that the story-telling model can effectively enhance students' academic results and at thesame time let them get more interests in learning English.Second, the teacher should choose suitable stories and the applicable story-teaching techniques in order to really promote the teaching efficiency in practice. In this way,the interaction between the teacher and the students could be made more effective. And ultimately students can be helped to practically master English in real use and get prepared for their life-long learning and future development.
