The development of the modern educational reform in China is asking educators to find out and study more effective teaching methods that can keep up with the times in their teaching practice. With the hard work of the teachers who have great educational dreams and the spirit of innovation, elementary English education and English teaching models in China have changed a lot, and all kinds of new educational concepts have been widely spread among all the teachers. "Story-based Situational Teaching Method" is a kind of new teaching method. Applying this method to English teaching in primary school can not only meet the need of English educational reform, but also be good for building students’ comprehensive ability of using language, arousing students’ interest in learning English and creating active atmosphere in English class, which will improve English teaching effect in primary school.During the process of collecting some resources about Story-based Situational Teaching Method, the author finds that though there are a lot of researches on Situational Teaching Method and Story Teaching Method, there are few researches on Story-based Situational Teaching Method which is more specific and detailed. Speaking from the aspect of category, Story-based Situational Teaching Method belongs to Situational Teaching Method, which is totally different from Story Teaching Method (Story Teaching Method uses a story itself as its teaching content while Story-based Situational Teaching Method uses a story as a main line in teaching). Compared to Situational Teaching Method, Story-based Situational Teaching Method pays more attention to integrity, coherence and connection of the teaching process. Story-based Situational Teaching Method can contain some other sub-situations that are linked to each other and help move forward the teaching process. Former researchers tend to roughly talk about Story-based Situational Teaching Method in their study of Situational Teaching Method while the author mainly focuses on Story-based Situational Teaching Method in this research so that it can be the detailed supplement of Situational Teaching Method.The author tries to study Story-based Situational Teaching Method in primary English class through theories and practice. The author summarizes the features and principles of this teaching method by collecting, arranging, reading and analyzing works about it and studying some excellent lessons where Story-based Situational Teaching Method is applied. This paper is to prove whether Story-based Situational Teaching Method can improve English teaching effect in primary school by doing teaching experiment and survey. At the end of this paper, some thought and advice will be given to improve Story-based Situational Teaching Method, which hopefully will provide some help for all the educators.This paper finds that Story-based Situational Teaching Method can be good for arousing and keeping students’ interest in studying English, building students’ comprehensive ability of using language and creating harmonious and ordered classroom atmosphere, which will help students master knowledge firmly.
