In accordance with the great development of Chinese economy and the enhancement of comprehensive national strength, every sports enterprise in China has made unprecedented achievements. Chinese athletes, as a important group in the development of Chinese sports cause, have attracted wide attention from all levels of the society. In addition, much attention has been paid to their cultural education, which has become a hot spot among the sports system as well as the whole society. Since their cultural education not only concerns their all-round self-development, but also possesses great importance in the comprehensive, balanced and sustainable development of our national sports cause.Track and field sport is the largest and the most influential one among all sports events. Besides the sprint, hurdle and jump events are regarded as the landmark of track and field due to the great influence. This paper chooses the athletes of sprint, hurdle and jump events in Chinese national track and field team as the study object and makes a detailed research on their current cultural education in order to find out their existing problems, to make an objective and systematic analysis on these problems and then to offer the corresponding solutions to each specific problem, aiming to provide some references to the development of the cultural education of these national athletes.This study employs the methods of documental studies, talking with experts, questionnaires and mathematical statistics, making an empirical analysis on current cultural education of Chinese athletes of sprint, hurdle and jump events in national track and field team.The main findings show that there are six major problems. Firstly, medal is everything rather than sparing time on education; Secondly, it’s difficult to run the mechanism of cultural education of the athletes since the responsibility and rights of every departments are not clear-cut; Thirdly, there is no definite system safeguard for the specific work on cultural education; Fourthly, athletes themselves generally possess weak cultural foundation and it’s quite a difficult task for them to catch up in training; Fifthly, they don’t have a clear consciousness of autonomy in learning, what’s more, study atmosphere varied among athlete groups; Last but not least, the great conflict between learning and training time still exists which can not be solved in a short time.To solve the major problems mentioned above, the author puts forward the following six solutions on the basis of our current policies along with some experts’advice. First of all, to update the concept by using the successful experience from Europe and North America as reference. And to enhance the athletics culture identity; Secondly, to set up detailed departmental rules and regulations, clear responsibilities and rights for cultural education; Next, to try new teaching methods and develop flexible, diversified cultural education activities; Fourthly, to cooperate with well-known colleges and universities and regularly invite experts and professors to give lessons to the athletes; Fifthly, to encourage the autonomous learning awareness and take advantage of information technology to establish a good learning atmosphere; Last but not least, to advocate the scientific training and improve the efficiency of daily training with the aim to alleviate the inconsistency between learning and training time.
