In foreign language teaching, grammar translation method takes a very important position, proper translation of grammar teaching is favorable. In the first stage of foreign language learning, the use of the mother tongue to learn a foreign language is extremely helpful. But this method also has its drawbacks, too many translations will restrict the students’ language learning, it is bound to affect the students’listening and speaking ability and the ability to use. Many teachers asked the students to recite some grammar rules which may cause actual restrictions and fetters, the dis-junction of language form and meaning will let the students lose interest in English and finally don’t study English any more.In order to solve the problem of grammar teaching, this paper puts forward the story-telling method in English grammar teaching, emphasizing the form and function of language. The students understand, conclude and use the language rules in the story scene, so as to the psychological and cognitive characteristics of students. The story teaching method pays great attention to the students and lets the students join in the knowledge construction. It plays an important role in the cultivation of students’ interest and the structure, function and meaning of the language.Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign study, the paper makes a research on how to carry out the story teaching method in middle school. This paper also introduces the experimental research of the story teaching method in grade eight in Yanji. The paper focuses on the application of the story teaching method in grammar teaching and show the specific teaching plans, and the experimental results are analyzed in detail. We have pre-tests and post-tests for the experimental class and control class, the experimental class used story-telling teaching method in grammar teaching, while the control class the traditional grammar teaching method.The results of the questionnaires and tests have been analyzed to show the effectiveness of the story-telling teaching method, it can stimulate students’interest in learning English grammar, reduce the difficulty of learning grammar, enhance students’learning achievements and interests, and finally promote better teaching results.
