As we all know, language is the basis of the culture. Also language and culture are closely related to each other. With the development of both economy and society, teachers gradually are aware of the importance of cultural teaching in the English education. So the study of cultural knowledge is not only necessary in the modern society but also helpful to students’ reading comprehension ability. This paper mainly studies the use of cultural teaching in the teaching of reading comprehension. On the basis of scheme theory, acculturation theory, multiculturalism theory and intercultural communication theory and through the empirical study, the paper solved the following questions: How to teach students in order to improve their accumulation of culture knowledge? How can students improve their reading ability through cultural education? What are the relationship between students’ level of cultural knowledge and reading comprehension?This essay uses the comparative experiment to testify the previous questions. It includes two classes: the empirical class and the control class. In the empirical class the teacher add the content of culture education in teaching the reading comprehension and also the author uses different methods of culture education to help students’ comprehension of reading material. The control class’ s reading comprehension is taught by the way that is void of the cultural knowledget. Finally through students’ reading test, socio-cultural test, and the help of the SPSS, the author can get the answers of the previous questions. The socio-cultural test is used to get the results whether the culture education is effective or not. The reading test is used to find whether students’ reading comprehension ability is improved or not. Finally, the SPSS is used to testify the correlation between the two factors.All in all, the paper is about the meaning of culture education used in teaching reading comprehension. The results show that here exists the positive correlation between the students’ cultural knowledge and the students who have higher knowledge about culture has the better ability in reading comprehension. Besides, the culture education with different methods is good to improve cultural knowledge. The reading teaching combined with the culture knowledge education is good to improve students’ reading comprehension ability. All in all, culture education should be used in English education especially in teaching reading comprehension. This way can not only improve students’ reading ability but also can help improve students’ knowledge about culture and reach the aim of the New Curriculum Standard.
