As one of the reading-assist systems, illustrations take an important part in Chinese textbooks. Illustrations are able to activate students’ thoughts and imagination which also contribute to the improvement of space intelligence. As the most direct form of graphical resource, illustrations guarantee the access to more direct and convenient information during students’ studying progress. As a component of the curriculum resources, illustrations in textbooks ought to exert their own feature to fulfil their value. This essay picks the Jiangsu Education Publishing House’s version of Chinese textbook for middle school students as researched samples. Literature analysis, statistics induction methods and cases dissections are used to research the details of the teaching-assist feature of the illustrations in the Jiangsu Education Publishing House’s version of Chinese textbooks for middle school students.This essay is divided into three main sections:The first section evaluates the supporting feature of illustrations in the Chinese textbooks for middle school students form two major angles: the mental characteristics of the middle school students’ studying and the digitalization of the Chinese curriculum for middle school students.The second section analyses the factual situation of illustrations in the Jiangsu Education Publishing House’s version of Chinese textbooks and their assisting features. This section includes the distribution, classification, existing problems and the factual usage, supporting features, abusing cases of the illustrations.The third section describes a teaching scheme for the Jiangsu Education Publishing House’s version of Chinese textbooks for middle school students. This section distinguishes the different appliances of illustrations to assist teaching, on which based the critical discussion of the infection and teaching methods of the illustrations in reading, writing and speaking courses.
