For the purpose of accelerating the pace of development of higher education in China, not only should our universities learn from world-class universities with respect to experience of running universities, but also we are supposed to dig into educational ideas of historically distinguished universities in China. Republic of China characterizes developed higher education as well as prosperous higher education culture. Several educational ideas, which are practiced by temporal outstanding presidents, make a profound impact on current higher education. Dong Ze, who is the first president of Donglu University, is regarded as the best of the bunch, the creation and development of Donglu University bases on his educational ideas which is worthy of being studied intensively and treated.The educational ideas, namely, a rational cognition with respect to several universities’fundamentals such as meanings, natures, aims, purposes, missions, functions and so on. These educational ideals are essentially innovative, directive and transcendent. The educational practice is a activity which features universities management. Based on theory& practice integration research model, the thesis adopts literature mining method, investigation and interview method, case study method as well. A variety of original historical records, which are abstracted from books of Yunnan University Library and information of Yunnan University Archive, are comprehensively analyzed. Meanwhile, the researcher of this thesis carries out a survey on Dong Ze’former residence and interviews Dong Ze’family members, so as to probe into Dong Ze’s educational ideals, and try to summarize the progressive and scientific value of his educational ideals, provide reference for current higher education reform as well.The thesis firstly analysis internal and external factors which affect Dong Ze’ educational ideals, to this end. the thesis combs Dong Ze’biographies, formation background of educational ideals and thought’s source, with the help of these three dimensions, the thesis analysis causes of Dong Ze’s educational ideals, gives a clear explanation of various factors which impacts his educational ideals, temporal China which is being in the midst of internal disorder and foreign invasion, his action and politics、economy、culture of Yunnnn are involved. Furthermore, the thesis reveals that traditional culture and western modern universities ideals enlightens Dong Ze. So what are Dong Ze’educational ideals? How do these educational ideals impact universities management?By means of studying correlative literatures and applying investigation and interview method, the thesis finally reach the conclusion as follows:the unity of theory and practice、the integration of study and application; Focusing on the local and linking theory with practice; abiding by the rules and being flexible; democratic management and free development; Valuing faculties; Gender equality and emphasizing moral、intellectual、physical education. Not only do these educational ideals, which are advanced at that time, play a critical part in development of Donglu University, but also it brings a positive impact on current curriculum、management model、faculties appointment and so on.
