Occupational gender segregation or simply "Gender segregation" is often used to study the obstacle in women’s occupation attainment and the promotion because of the gender inequality. However, there is little attention by researchers focus on the male group that who engaged in the so-called "Female occupation". This paper starting with the nursing profession which is regarded as a women-only job is based on the interviews of nine male nurses and working environment’s observation of a male nurse, set off a gender perspective to explore the gender differences and gender discrimination in the process of nursing vocational education, the acquisition and promotion of nursing profession. This research follows two veins which include "School-the labor market-the hospital-ward" four fields and "vocational education-acquisition of nursing profession-gender differentiation between different departments-gender differences in clinical nursing" corresponding to different fields to analyze gender segregation leaving behind the draining of male nurses and to explain the paradox that between comments on "full employment" of male nurses and the actuality that obstacles in the process of male nurses’ career and the draining of male nurses.The investigation show that the reason of the imbalance in the structure of gender and constant draining of male nursing resources is not just relevant to personal career choice,but a lag of gender culture. Known as the "beacon", male nurses do not like comments in the labor market that it is plain sailing in their development of the career. Since entering the education of nursing professional, acquisition and development in nursing profession, male group suffered gender segregation from beginning to end. In vocational education, not only in the admissions of students schools implement gender segregation, but also in the process of nursing professional education continue a training mode that "Center for women ".In the process of occupation attainment, male nurses suffer a multitude of direct and implicit gender segregation which display in the direct gender discrimination on the requirements of recruitment, the implicit gender segregation on the employment standards and the segregation between different departments which based on gender factors. On the career development, more barriers exists in the promotion of Administrative and technical titles——internal defects in the system of the medical institutions lead to male nurses have to face chaotic responsibilities and ambiguous professional role, non-institutional barriers include the image of "gender" requirements, the Limited training opportunities and "Homosocial Reproduction" from the female group results male nurses encounter a "glass ceiling" in their career development. multitudinous segregation in nursing profession and the low plant investment, the poor professional reputation and the low-status could be considered to be contrary to the gender expectation of society, which leads to the draining of male nursing resources, consolidates the gender division of the unequal labor pattern and promote occupational gender segregation to continue.
