In 1995, the promulgation and implementation of a "national fitness program outline" marked that the sports enterprise in our country had entered a new stage. In 2016, during two sessions of the State General Administration of Sports Bureau, the chief minister, Liu Peng, and the chancellor told media in the great hall that the state council will issue and implement the second "national fitness plan" (2016-2020). At the same time, it means higher physical education teaching in China will constantly improve, faced with new opportunities and challenges. The sport of badminton has a profound, cultural background, elegant properties, and can adapt with the pursuit of fashion. People can focus on health, enhancing physical fitness, cultivating sports consciousness, and edifying sentiment. Players from the Chinese badmintonteam participated and won repeatedly in various games in the world badminton contest, which produced Chinese badminton stars, unconsciously raising a heat wave of this sport in China.During 2014 and 2015, the 18th and 19th sessions saw universities nationally participate in badminton championships, including students from Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Macao; as a result, badminton obtained attention and favor in colleges and universities in Jilin province.Under such conditions and atmosphere, badminton has become many college students’favorite sport to participate in for exercise, and it has cultivatedstudents’ consciousness onthe importance of a lifetime involvement in sports. In order to accurately grasp the sport of badminton in the universities of Jilin province intheirpresent situation, this study uses literature material, expert interviews, questionnaire surveys, mathematical statistics, and other research methods. The six colleges and universities of Jilin province opened a badminton course as an object of investigation, specifically to analyze and research the curriculum, teacher structure, students’ status, and facilities. As a result, the situations of the six colleges were analyzed, researched, and compared to find out the main problems existing in the teaching process and the objective elements needing to be solved. The results show that:1. According to the requirements of"Guidelines," the teaching goal of badminton emphasized the theory, "sanki," of badminton, the requirements of the teaching goals, and the strengthening of physical health. However, some of the schools did not implement their teaching goals and targets, specifically those of comprehension and having a lifetime sports’ mindset. The six universities teaching content included theory, practice, and assessment of three different parts, but the time needed by the theory to fully understand badminton did not match the time allocated for teaching the sport. There was a tendency towards heavy practicing without understanding the theory correctly, and most of the schools’academic performance evaluation processes failed to reflect the theory’s results.2. Several of the six universities of Jilin province violated the regulations of "Guidelines" for teaching content and distribution of class hours. Excluding Jilin Agricultural University and Jilin Teacher-Training College, the others failed to meet the requirements, and their distribution of teaching hours appeared uneven according to the status quo, and imbalanced in their theory and practice.3. In the Jilin province universities, the title and age structures of teachers present two phenomenons among them, particularly that the proportion of young teachers is very small, and that their ages are newly out of schooL Professional badminton teachers are scarce, making it difficult to guarantee the improvement of teaching quality and development. The students who chose the badminton class had a higher degree of satisfaction with the sport, because they were motivated.4. The colleges and universities of Jilin province opened badminton with a total of 82 fields and courts:52 indoor courts and 32 outdoor courts. There is a shortage of badminton courts and a lack of quality, and they do not fully meet the needs of teaching students badminton.Suggestions:1. The universities of Jilin Province should strictly follow the requirements of"Guidelines." At the same time, the teaching of badminton "sanki" should pay attention to cultivate students’ lifelong sports ideology. Adherence to the theory and practice of a reasonable allocation of teaching content will optimize the evaluation method and form.2. The universities’ teaching methods should be in accordance with the relevant provisions of "Guidelines," while also considering the effects of northern climate on playing badminton, and invest funds in the expansion of coverings for outdoor courts where the climate is prone to wind and rain.3. The universities of Jilin Province should raise the quantity of badminton teachers, strengthen the echelon of construction, and improve the level of professional teachers and modern badminton technology, all of which will continuously improve the quality of teaching. To strengthen the publicity of badminton, there should be organized rich and colorful campus, cultural activities, thus improving the students’ health awareness.4. The universities of Jilin Province should increase investment in improving hardware facilities to satisfy the increasing of college students’ health, leisure, entertainment, and cultural needs.
