Along with the rapid development of the economy, education has increasingly become the focus of public concern. However the development of education is now becoming more comprehensive. Owing to this change, Counselors are becoming more important, and will usually foster close relationships with the students. Their are many problems with this Counseling system in China however; counselors often face high pressure at work, some lack enthusiasm for the job, and many lack proper training experience. In the United States, the counseling system has a similar function, but is much better than the one that currently exists in China. Owing to 100 years of experience, the system has been able to work through problems over time, and develop into the success that it is now. Presently in the United States, the Counselor system has been increasing in size and influence, and has become an integral part of the school systems. By examining the American public school counseling systems key elements, such as teacher backgrounds, job requirements, and work content, this essay will provide a framework to guide the development of China’s own Counseling system.This thesis is divided into six parts, the first part is the introduction, the second part of the paper is the first chapter, the third part is the second chapter of the thesis, the fourth part is the thesis of the third chapter, the fifth part of the paper is the fourth chapter, the sixth part is the conclusion of this paper:The first part of this thesis, mainly expounds the the basic theories, research, and significance of this research. It also seeks to define key concepts of the paper, and to introduce the strengths and weaknesses of the current systems. It also will provide a framework for the rest of the paper.The second part is the background of the American system of counselors and details the system’s stages of development. It will also analyze China’s system, and summarize the three stages of the Counselors System’s development.The third part details the requirements needed to become a Counselor in primary and middle schools in the USA. It will also provide a detailed introduction into the three kinds of Counselors in the US, such as the Career Counselor, the Psychological Counselor, and the Academic Counselor. Finally, this part will discuss the pay level and career prospects of a Counselor in the US.The fourth part will detail the counselor’s work content and evaluation system. It will discuss the work content of a primary, middle, and high school counselor, and then focus on their performance evaluation systems. Owing to the diversity of educational systems present in the United States, each State will set different standards for their Counselors and teachers to meet. This paper will analyze the systems present in North Carolina and MissouriThe fifth section will detail how China can learn from the counselor system in the United States. This paper will discuss how China can better handle the problems it is facing, and improve it’s current Counselor System Finally, this paper will focus on the benefits of better cooperation between schools and parents, to establish a better education system.
