It has become an indisputable fact that play is a basic activity of kindergarten. It is becoming a trend to emphasis on the participatory rights of children, to respect for children’s voice, to encourage and adopt children’s speech. So it is important to study children’s perspective. There have been a lot of studies on children’s play, but most of research methods used are in adult perspective, such as observation or interviews, and the researchers often neglect children’s perspectives and ability. In this study,5-6 year old class children are as research participants from kindergarten A in Wuhan. In order to avoid language barriers of children the researcher use appropriate methods such as conversation, photo elicitation and paintings to obtain relevant information on children’s understanding of play from the perspective of children. Among them, the researcher obtain the understanding of play and the value of play by using conversations to children, obtain understanding of structural elements of play by using photo elicitation, obtain understanding of play preferences by using painting and track conversation.On the basis of grounded theory the researcher use Nvivo8 and SPSS20.0 software to encode and analyze the data. The relevant results are as follows:The understanding of children’s play is specific. Most children think that Youxi is Wan:Youxi is same with Wan in definition; Youxi is positive emotional experience; Youxi is positive social interaction; Youxi is specific play. Some children think that Youxi is different from wan. Youxi is carried out by regulars and rules with teachers, while wan points to play with toys, outdoor activities, play activity area and free activities. Children’s favorite activity is Youxi, and then lesson class and wan, the activities children preferences has gender differences, but no class differences.The structural elements of play in chldren’s perspective are rich in content. According to the results of the study analysis:children think that the structural elements of play include ten elements:materials of activities, movements and facial expressions of activities, phantom and fiction of activities, grounds of activities, teacher’s role in activities, the number of children in activities, feeling of activities, experience of activities, the value of activities and the degree of freedom of activities. Main materials and activities of different gender children freedom, activity place, the number of children above exist significant difference; Class in different degrees of freedom, the hypothetical and fiction, action and expression, activity value and experience exists significant difference.Young children think that the mainly value of play is the value of development Children think that not all play are valuable, in most cases play is not to learn, also not all play has development value. The value of the development of play includes to promote the improvement of cognitive level;to prepare the way for the future life; to conduce to the further development of the body; to get positive emotional experience and to master relevant skills. There is gender differences of play value, there is no class difference. The gender differences of development value is mainly in improving cognitive development, helping to master skills and preparing for future life three aspect.Young children have obvious play preferences. They prefer rule-play; prefer play with positive emotional experience; prefer play with positive social interaction and play in outdoor. there is no gender difference in their preference.
