With the exposure of ecological crisis, environmental protection and governance gradually came into the sight of human. Recently, the destruction of ecological environment made people realize the severity of environmental issues. With the concern over the condition of ecological environment, as well as human survival and development, in the present time and in the future, we began to realize the importance of environmental education for teenagers.Combining subject teaching with environmental education is an efficient way to carry out environmental education, develop students’ environmental awareness and construct ecological civilization.The unifying of humanity and instrumental is the feature of Chinese education, and ecological education is an important part of Chinese and humanity education. The subject of Chinese can have a great effect on environmental education. As the medium of Chinese education, language teaching materials contain masterpieces at home and abroad of all times, and there are excellent works which are showing ecological awareness. Some of them depicted the magnificent nature, some narrated sincere emotion between human and animals, and some recorded the life philosophy conveyed by nature as well. These are all the manifestations of the ideologies of the authors. Through reading and thinking, teacher can make students feel the beauty of the nature and lead them to think about the environment issues, and then inspire them to develop ecological awareness, and achieve the effect of environmental education. PEP edition Chinese textbooks is the most widely used, high school students will face higher education or enter into social,therefore, the importance of PEP edition high school Chinese textbook can not be ignored. this paper, with a view of ecological education, tries to analyze, in the quantity and qualitative ways, the selected texts in PEP edition high school Chinese teaching materials, to make them an efficient curriculum resource and to truly achieve the aim of ecological education.This thesis applies various methods in the study, including document analysis, comparison analysis and text analysis. firstly, reviews a considerable amount of literature, clarifies the current state of ecological education and Chinese education researches, and confirms the theoretical base and the content of ecological education in Chinese teaching materials. Secondly, combs and counts the ecological texts in the PEP edition of senior high school textbooks from 2002 to 2004, and locates the strengths and weaknesses by comparative analysis. Basing on the existing researches, summarizes the six dimensions of ecology consciousness and analyzes them in the selected texts, and explains the ecological texts in current PEP edition of senior high school textbooks in detail. Finally, suggestions on the textbooks are offered.
