Quality-oriented education and new curriculum reform put forward new requirements for the professional development of English teachers. Under the new curriculum reform, English teachers are generally faced with enormous pressure and challenges, because their current knowledge and experience can not cope with the requirements of the reform. Therefore, English teachers’ professional development is very important. In the modern society, teacher’s professional development can not be alone achieved through personal strength, so collaboration among teachers is really important. Based on that, this paper studies one of the effective ways that can promote the English teachers’ professional development——English teachers’ professional learning community.There are many English teachers’ professional development approaches. Among them, participating in the English teachers’ professional learning community is one of the most effective ways to promote English teachers’ professional development. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide some references for the construction of the English teachers’ professional learning community. The aims of this paper are: to research on the status quo of the English teachers’ professional learning community through the investigation into the English teachers’ professional learning community at secondary schools in Ganzhou city; to analyze what problems they have; and then to put forward developmental strategies. English teachers’ professional learning community can promote English teachers’ professional development, so further study of English teachers’ professional learning community is full of theoretical and practical value.This article mainly adopts questionnaire method, assisted with interview. This study has an investigation in the status quo of the English teachers’ professional learning community at secondary schools in Ganzhou city. As for the collected questionnaire data, the author uses SPSS 16.0 to cope with and analyze. According to the survey results, the status quo of the English teachers’ professional learning community at secondary schools in Ganzhou city is overall good. But at the same time, there are still some problems to be solved: the allocation of resources between urban and rural areas need to be balanced; t he external supportive conditions of teacher’s professional development needs to be improved; the cooperation consciousness of English teachers need to be strengthened; English teachers’ self-development consciousness needs to be strengthened; English teachers’ ability needs to be improved; the operative mechanism should be perfected. Aiming at the problems, this study puts forward some strategies from the aspects of consciousness, environment, atmosphere, learning activity and operative mechanism.
