With the development of the society,great attention is paid to the education in the rural areas.Teacher quality is the key to the education in the rural areas.Teachers'professional development has direct influence on the quality of the education.Therefore,teachers' professional development is becoming a hot issue in recent years,especially in the rural areas.With the deepening reform of the New Curriculum,rural junior middle school English teachers' professional development is attracting more and more attention of the researchers.Based on the theory of teacher professional development,the author intends to explore the situation of English teachers' professional development in six town schools in Rong County,Guangxi province by means of questionnaire and interview.116 English teachers are taken as the research subjects.The research aims to answer the following three questions:1)What.is the general situation of rural junior middle school English teachers' professional development of Rong County?2)What are the characteristics of rural junior middle school English teachers' professional development of Rong County?3)What are the influencing factors of rural junior middle school English teachers'professional development of Rong County?The research results indicate that the English teachers' in the rural areas are faced with great challenge in the aspects of professional development,such as shortage of teaching resources,simple teaching equipment and poor working conditions.Teachers at different stages have different characteristics in professional knowledge,professional skills,professional emotion and teaching belief.There are many factors influencing teachers' professional development,mainly from the society,the schools and the teachers themselves.Based on the research results,some suggestions are put forward from three aspects,the society,the schools and the teachers.Firstly,the state government should strength the construction of teachers' team in rural junior middle school English teachers by increasing investment to improve rural junior middle school' conditions and developing unique and targeted in-service teacher training programs to promote the professional development of the English teachers in rural junior middle schools.Secondly,the schools should establish the management awareness of teachers' professional development,encourage school-based training and research exchange-based teaching activities,establish the evaluation system of teachers' professional development to ensure teacher's sustainable development environment.And lastly,English teachers should have the awareness of professional development and individual plan of professional development,transform the teaching ideas,and improve their consciousness of professional development to ease the teaching burnout,improve their teaching abilities and meet the needs of the teaching and the society.
