At present, the comprehensive promotion to reform of new mathematics curriculum has brought great influence to teaching ideas, teaching methods and learning methods in various provinces. However, in the background of uneven distribution of educational resources and regional differences, what kind of specific differences on development of mathematics education between the southwest region and the central region of China?This research chooses a chapter of “reasoning and proof” from the secondary-school teaching material to study the ability of reasoning of students. In order to more specific, the author divides reasoning ability into two parts: the ability of plausible reasoning and deductive reasoning ability. There are three questions are put forward: What is the development of students’ mathematical reasoning ability? Whether the students’ reasoning ability is influenced by the cultural background? What are main factors that influence students’ reasoning ability?Based on the theory, this study selected grade ten students from each provincial level demonstrative high school in Guiyang(Guizhou province) and Zhengzhou(Henan province). Through investigation, interviews, qualitative and quantitative combination methods, the author studies the level of high school students reasoning ability in Henan and Guizhou provinces and their differences, to analyzes main factors that affect development of students’ reasoning ability, and puts forward relevant countermeasures.The basic conclusions of the study are as follows:(1) On reasoning ability level, high-school students ’ plausible reasoning ability level of Henan province is slightly higher than that of Guizhou province; high-schools students ’ deductive reasoning ability of Henan province is much higher than that in Guizhou. Henan students’ reasoning thinking is more rigorous and plausible in a larger range of speculation breadth. The reason is that Henan province conducted new curriculum reform two years earlier than Guizhou province, teachers had more opportunities to learn and transformed their traditional thinking. The high computing power of students in Henan province historically has been a great help to its deductive reasoning ability as well.(2) On differences of reasoning ability: The main reason lies in whether teachers transform the understanding of the new curriculum into their teaching behaviors or not. The differences of the overall quality of teachers, family’s cultural background, parents’ educational degree, and learning atmosphere show great influence on students. So, home-school-union is an effective way to improve students’ abilities. Students’ self effort level is one of the important reasons that influence reasoning ability.(3) There are regional differences in development of students’ reasoning ability, and differences of region affect students’ thinking ability.To improve Guizhou students on reasoning ability of southwest China: first of all, to focus on enhancing thought and action of teachers in curriculum reform, and to actively explore suitable teaching strategy and methods; second, parents need to ensure that they can offer students a good family atmosphere, and they can often communicate with kids to look at the outside world to broaden their horizons; finally, students should change their attitude towards learning, which requires parents and teachers to carry out norms and education.
