With the continuous innovation of virtual reality technology,the application experience of virtual reality educational products will become more perfect and more humanized.It is urgent to accelerate the research about faster and more efficient applications of virtual reality technology in the future classroom.The thematic learning emphasizes learning around a topic which based on real tasks and organizing diverse learning activities.Its goal is to enable learners to learn with multiple intelligences,and information technology gives a support in the forms of resources and tools.The three-dimensional virtual environment realized by virtual reality technology has three characteristics of imagination,immersion and interactivity,which can fully utilize the learner's visual,auditory,tactile and motion perception.In theory,the three-dimensional virtual environment can be well integrated with the thematic learning which fosters the development of learners' multiple intelligences.In practice,there are also related researches on the thematic learning in a three-dimensional virtual environment.However,current research faces the following problems:(1)The instructional system design for the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment is incomplete,current research cannot provide effective reference for learning practice.(2)In the current research,the role of the three-dimensional virtual environment in cultivating multiple intelligences is not fully reflected.The educational potential of the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment is not fully reflected in the comprehensive development of learners' morality,intelligence,physical fitness,art and labor skill.Based on the above research issues,this study is based on constructivist theory,multiple intelligence theory and activity theory,trying to form a teaching practice that combines the three-dimensional virtual environment with the thematic learning.Referring to the activity model design,firstly,a feasibility analysis of the combination of the three-dimensional virtual environment and the thematic learning is carried out.Secondly,according to the characteristics of the three-dimensional virtual environment and the activity flow of the thematic learning,the design framework and the design principle of the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment are proposed.The design of the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment is mainly reflects in pre-analysis,activity process and learning evaluation.Finally,an activity process framework for the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment is formed.Referring to the technical realization,based on the Open-Sim platform,the pre-design work of the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment is described in details from four aspects of choosing a learning theme,analyzing learning objectives,analyzing learner characteristics,and designing learning activities.And it shows the support for the three-dimensional virtual environment from learning situations,learning resources,learning tools,and learning evaluation.Finally,the thematic learning in the Open-Sim platform was tested.The results show that the theme of the Monarch Butterfly Learning on the Open-Sim platform,experimenters are satisfied with their performance and are satisfied with their ability development.In other words,experimenters believe that the thematic learning in the three-dimensional virtual environment can promote the development of their abilities.
