National basic scale topographic map of economic construction, national defense and scientific research is not only an indispensable tool, but also the preparation of a variety of small-scale general maps, thematic maps and atlases basic information. How to quickly, accurately and visually check the desired area map sheet number is topographic map use, management units generally concern. In recent years, issues related to research focused on the conversion of the old and new numbers, query optimization algorithms, based on different methods and their pros and cons of the software queries on issues such as the lack of systematic visual query tool for research.This theoretical paper expounds the map framing and numbering, studied the basic principles of the Google Maps API, built on this basis and developed an online interactive visual multifunctional maps inquiry system.Not only a good interpretation of the meaning of software engineering, but also the traditional maps queries made a new attempt and break from the query maps and Google Maps to find a combination of points, so that the two together organically.Faced with the high-speed development of internet electronic map, as well as the transplantation trend of GIS platform to the network, network map service market is booming. The detrusion of map service with Google Maps as a representative launches the beginning of global geographic information service. Google Maps provides an open API of low cost and high usability, which is of the utmost user for its time and mature technology.This system aims at creating multi-function B/S map inquire system, which is developed in WAMP(Windows + Apache + MySQL + PHP) environment. With JavaScript and PHP as development language, it employs mature map service framework and application development interface of Google Maps and combines with web design concept of JSON technology, KML files, HTML and CSS, realizing the multi-functional online map query. The system does not involve confidential data and supports users whenever or wherever they get access to it through the internal LAN or WAN.The system consists of a main page and five subpages, realizing map query of any scales through the longitude and latitude input method, place names input method and arbitrary point method, as well as the query of map range through interested path or interested cover. What’s more, it carries out map overlay of the national administrative districts and online topographic map information query of needed scales of the provinces and cities in national land function zones planning(KML form).With the help of such a system, users can not only find the maps to determine the location number, but also quick access to any intetested points, lines, surfaces where the map sheet through a variety of ways, relying on Google Maps, the geographic information of the corresponding location and the surrounding area take in everything in a glance, achieved a map query and the integration of virtual reconnaissance, changed the reality of map query separated from the map background. The system has been tested and validated, can promote the use of actual production and management.
