Research On Spatial Distribution Pattern Of Wuhan Producer Service Industry

Along with the integration of information, hi-technology and service industry, producer services are gradually becoming the key force of economic growth in the big city. The adjustment of city industrial structure will bring the compatible transition of city spatial structure. The characteristic of Producer services enables its industrial distribution to have the unique pattern, which will influents land utilization, spatial structure and so on. Therefore, only by relating industrial development to spatial arrangement of producer services, can the industrial structure be really optimized and the urban function be enhanced. Wuhan is the core city in middle area. The development of producer services is of great significance to the arrangement of resource, the upgrading of industries and the enhancement of region effluence for Wuhan. Research on spatial distribution pattern of producer services in Wuhan can be the sample of planning policy and developmental strategy. Moreover, it is helpful in promoting the upgrading of industrial structure and impelling coordinated development of industry.Based on correlation theories of regional economics and urban geography, this paper presents an overall analysis of the distributed situation, the location pattern and mechanism of producer service in Wuhan. According to the characteristics of producer service development in Wuhan, as well as the related information in "Wuhan Yellow Pages"(2003,2008), this study conducts quantitative analysis by using the Spatial Gini coefficient and qualitative analysis by virtue of GIS.There are five main conclusions of this paper.(1) Although the economical contribution and the employment producing of Wuhan producer services increase gradually, its total level is low, with largish developmental potential.(2) The degree of agglomeration of producer service in Wuhan is high, but there are some differences in the condition of cluster or diffusion of individual industries.(3) In term of the whole city, the distribution of producer services assumes a "Circling-Layering" spatial structure from the centre to the suburb.(4) In the central city, the agglomeration of producer services in Wuhan coexists with dispersion, the industry mixing area coexisting with the industry specialized area. Meanwhile, Wuhan shows the tendency to distribute its space from "the core to multi-centers".(5) The spatial distribution of producer services in Wuhan is formed under the combined force of geographical environment and historical foundation, the market drive and agglomeration economies, the governmental planning, transportation, and information technology.The innovation points of this paper are as follows:In term of research content, from the perspective of spatial distribution of industries in geography, this paper takes Wuhan as a case to study the spatial distribution and mechanism of producer service. Regarding research thinking, from the two levels of the whole city and central city, as well as the static analysis and dynamic analysis, this paper systemically studies the spatial distribution characteristic of spatial distribution of Wuhan producer services, and proposes preliminary suggestion for the industrial regulation and planning of industry.
