Study Of The Strategies For The Spatial Development Of Urban Periphery In The Background Of Rapid Urbanization

With the trend of reforming economy, the nation’s economy has experiencedsuch a rapid growth in numerous regionals. However, there’s a lagging area in today’seconomic development, which is the urban periphery. As peripheries of cities, theyare bound to be affected by the mutual influence from the city core, nearby cities andvillages. As a result, it is crucially important to make those peripheral areas develop inan order and healthy way against the background of globalization and coordinateddevelopment of the economy. Besides, there should be more issues and complicatedcircumstances as the peripheral areas develop faster. Our country is a vast territorywith rich resources, development patterns of diverse peripheral areas have variouscharacteristics according to their own situations, so do the development modes as wellas development directions and realms which they cover, for these reasons, thedevelopment of urban fringe should be based on the study from the perspective ofcomplicated analyses and harmonious development, and the angle of spatialdevelopment is more needed to achieve the goal of coordinated development.This paper gives a detailed illustration of the definition of “the periphery of acity” at first, including its development features, mainstream theories, definitionmethods and development motivation. Then according to the characteristics of rapidurbanization of our country, the restriction mechanism of the change of cities’peripheries and the existing problems in the spatial structure extension of those areas,it gives an insight into the restriction factors and influence mechanism of thoseperipheral areas. In the end, it explores the spatial development strategies for thoseareas from three aspects when taking Tianjin Jinnan district as an example to provethe study, which has both theoretical and realistic significance.
