Insurance industry in China with the rapid development for nearly10years has becomeone of the fastest growing sectors of the national economy. China has become the world’smost important emerging powers of insurance with boundless future for development. But theinsurance industry has been plagued by the problem of talent employers. The insuranceindustry is an urgent need of professional managers for the lack of personnel. But theprofessional managers recruitment, selection, training and performance appraisal of theinsurance industry has not yet formed a set of standards, scientific methods and systems. Thispaper with the insurance mid-career managers of this group as a research object studies themid-career managers’ competency model and its relationship to performance.By reading research literature at home and abroad about the competence of professionalmanagers and performance model, through comparative analysis of domestic andinternational research on professional managers capable force model and combining thecharacteristics and realities of China’s insurance industry, build the five dimensional model ofthe insurance mid-career managers competence force. These five dimensions are driving force,personality traits, work attitude, leadership qualities, knowledge and skills. Researches onperformance have formed a relatively complete system. Meanwhile, the studies of the relationbetween competency and performance show that the organized performance will reflectpersonal performance in the wake of the advance of the post of professional managers. So thispaper selected financial and non-financial performance as the performance indicators with atotal11indicators to measure performance. Use SPSS and AMOS to do the statistical analysisto build the relational model of competence degrees and performance dimensions. The resultsshow that the five degrees of competence of the insurance mid-career managers and financialperformance and non-financial performance exists a positive correlation. This study furthervalidates and improves the previous academic studies on the relationship between competenceand performance; enrich the empirical literatures of mid-career professional managers’competency and corporate performance the insurance industry.Professional managers if the insurance industry can effectively improve theircompetence through increased personal influence, decision-making skills and self-controlability, thereby increasing the level of team building and organizational performance. Value ofthis study is to provide a reference for the professional managers to improve their overallquality, selection of professional managers comply with the requirements in the insuranceindustry and setting up a reasonable performance appraisal system.
