In the face of a fierce competition in the international market, Chinese banksbegin to see the significance of constructing of their own English portals. However,by sending questionnaires to a hundred foreign customers who have been using theEnglish portals of Chinese banks (EPCB) and by a contrastive study of these portalswith their English counterparts, this study found that the status quo of these Englishportals of Chinese banks is far from being satisfactory. In many cases, foreigncustomers’ reading habits or interests are neglected. Errors in grammar and financialterms are pervasive, which greatly undermined the service quality. Based on thissurvey and by referring to advanced website evaluation systems at home and abroad,this study aims to establish an integrated model for the construction and evaluationof bank portals within the framework of Skopos theory, which will be instrumentalin improving the overall service quality of EPCB.
