Comparative Study On Corn Competitiveness Of The Northeast Provinces In China

The northeast three provinces is corn production base in China, it planted12.11millionhectares accounting for34%and producted68.9million tons accounting for33.5%in China.The corn planting area in heilongjiang province is the biggest but the unit yield of corn is thesmallest in the three provinces. Heilongjiang has advantage on the planting area and gross buthas disadvantage in unit yield, so it is possible to find methods accounting the score on the corncompetitiveness.This paper based on the available competitiveness evaluation index and method,determines the combination of multiple index and the index evaluation method. From twoaspects of corn production competitiveness and market competitiveness indicators, it choosesper unit yield index and cost margin level of production competitiveness and marketcompetitiveness on trade competitiveness index, the year-on-year growth rate, market share,export contribution rate of four indicators of market competitiveness. It analysis and comparescorn competitiveness of the three provinces under the single index. Because the single index canonly reflect the corn competitiveness in some way, in order to comprehensive all indicators, thefinal result is concluded in the three provinces of corn competitiveness, multi-indexcomprehensive analyzed. Comprehensive analysis using principal component analysis in Spsssoftware function, eventually got the rank in the production of competitiveness, marketcompetitiveness and overall competitiveness is jilin province> heilongjiang province>liaoningprovince.Finally, according to the previous results of the empirical analysis, Jilin province in the twoaspects of production and market competitiveness are the strongest. In order to enhance thecompetitiveness of the three northeast provinces of corn, paper puts forward some Suggestionsin Heilongjiang province and liaoning province. Advices still come from two aspects ofproduction and market. Competitiveness in production, Jilin province has the highest unit yieldindex, so heilongjiang province and liaoning province needs to improve yield, includingincreasing science and technology research, improving the quality of corn, raising farmers’quality, improving the modern production ability; Heilongjiang province has highest cost marginlevel, so Jilin and Liaoning province need to reduce the cost of corn. Competitiveness inmarket,Jilin is the strongest in all indexes, so Liaoning and Heilongjiang need to improve the market competitiveness including the reasonable planning, laying out size corn processingindustry, and comprehensive use of corn resources.
