Since the period of the12th Five Years Plan, transportation service industry of ourcountry has achieved a new historical stage. The ministry of railways is merged into theministry of transport means the formation of large traffic pattern in out country. Intermodaltransportation which could make best use of each transport mode’ advantages and bypass thedisadvantages will play an increasingly role in the large traffic pattern. Intermodal withhub-and-spoke has increasingly used in logistics network because it can aggregate theshipment on transportation line and improve the utilization of transport resources in order toreduce the average cost per unit of shipment.As the transfer station of several transportation modes in a transport network, theintermodal hub can also aggregate and consolidation the shipment. Whether a layout ofintermodal hub network is effective or not could directly estimate the service quality of thenetwork.This paper introduces the research status and literatures of hub and spoke network designand intermodal optimization. Analysis the type and basic modal about hub and spokeintermodal hub network design problem. Then building a model framework which describethe hub and spoke intermodal hub network with capacity constraint under the service time,establish an optimization modal based on the model framework. We test a6nodes networkusing the modal we established through the mathematical optimization lingo software, thendesigning a tabu search algorithm based on the model framework to solve the modaleffectively, and then contrasting to the solution of algorithm and the lingo, aimed to evaluatethat whether the modal is efficient and reliability or not.Finally, we take an instance with20nodes derive from turkey network, make empiricalanalysis and study of the hub and spoke intermodal hub network using the modal produced.The empirical analysis shows that constraint of transportation time and hub capacity affect theselect of transportation mode, and expectedly, the capacity restraint encourage the modes oftransit through single hub and double hubs with rail. This conclusion will contribute to designand manage an intermodal network more practical.
