Research On Labor Productivity In Construction Industry Of China

Construction industry， an essential industrial sector of national economy， isveryimportant in the process of China’s economic development.It is the representation oftraditional industries, set labor-intensive industries, speed-based industries and extensiveindustry. National economic growth is changing, and the development concept and productionmethods of construction industry are also facing a comprehensive，fundamental change. Theproduction inefficiencies on construction industryare a hot topic. Labor productivity, which isan important indicator of the development of China’s construction industry productivity，has apositive influence to the sustainable development of the construction industry.The paper measured and evaluated the labor productivity in the construction industry ofMainland of China. Firstly， discussedthe national economic growth theory and laborproductivity theory，measured and comparised provincial labor productivity levels of theconstruction industry and then analyzed the evolution and characteristics in a dynamicperspective. Secondly，combered and reviewed existing research，analyzed the impact of theconstruction labor productivity from capital、technology and labor factorsqualitatively andquantitatively. On the one hand, the paper explained the importance of the construction capitalinvestment in the investment structure and efficiency，analyzed the current situation ofconstruction labor from labor input、quantity and level of education，determined the state inthe construction industryfrom technology infrastructure、science and technology investmentand output、technology and equipment. On the other hand，the paper established the provinciallabor productivity growth panel data model in construction industry, the differencedegree ofinfluenceof three factors between the were analyzed in the regionthrough regression analysis.The main conclusions are：（1）Chinese construction industry labor productivity hasexperienced ups and changes period of1991to2001，and the steady growth of2002to2012.It growthed steadilyand stepwisely，and is very sensitivity topolicies.（2）The provincialregional labor productivity significantly different，and the overall level followed by theeastern、central and western regions. From the development trend, the level of laborproductivity in the eastern region decreased gradually，but still in the average advanced level；central region latecomers showed a rising trend and the growth in the western region is not obvious, which is still below the national average.（3）The growth rate of labor productivityand the initial level of labor productivity is negatively correlated. Compared with developedregions，provincely construction developed late in the western region，but its growth rate ishigher than the developed regions with the advantage of others.（4）The development level ofChina construction industry labor productivity in different provinces is different，so did thethe core factors affecting the labor productivity. The main factors affected the eastern part istechnological progress，and capital deepening and labor inputs had a low influence；the mainfactors of the central region were capital deepening、technological progress and labor input；while the main factors of the western region is the capital deepening，followed by laborinputs， technical progress is not obvious.
