As the development of economy and the globalization of competition, China’smanufacturing enterprises are facing more and more fierce competition. The excellentfacility planning is an important source and means to improve production systembenefit, it is also the premise and foundation of improving the production system’soverall functions, realizing modern management and making production modeadvanced.This thesis takes a pipe fittings foundry as the research object. The research ideasand framework are identified based on the analysis of the domestic and internationaltheories related to facilities layout and material handling system. In the study offacility planning and design theory for the application and implementation in thefoundry enterprises, we use the advanced quantitative analysis and systematicplanning method to take place of the traditional qualitative analysis and personalexperience design method. First of all, we find out the existing problems through theanalysis of a pipe fittings foundry work shop’s products, production process,workshop logistics and other aspects. Then, based on the investigation and analysis ofthe logistics and non logistics relationship between internal operation units, the layoutdesign system (SLP) method is utilized to improve the shop layout, and get morereasonable layout diagram. Finally, through analysis of workshop material handlingsystem based on improved layout, we use the mathematical programming method toestablish a multi-objective optimization model with the objectives to minimize thecost and maximize the operation ability. As a result, the number of the handlingequipment in the workshop is optimized. Relevant parameters are given and themodel is solved by the Xpress software.Through the implementation of the above method, we can make the logisticssystem of the whole workshop more smoothly and efficiently, and improve theutilization rate of workshop handling equipment as well as reduce material handling costs and time, so as to realize the ultimate goal of shortening the production cycleand reducing the enterprise production cost.
