Study On Selenium-Enriched Agricultural Industrialization

With the development of Chinese agricultural production and the improvement of living standards, the request of nutrition and quality of food make the natural, ecological and healthy food increasingly popular. Selenium is an essential trace element known to one of14species, widely used in nutrition, medicine and life sciences. Food is the main source of selenium, so the selenium-rich agricultural development has significance for the improvement of people’s quality of life and local agricultural economy.Based on the theory of scarcity economics, agricultural industrialization and characteristic agriculture, this paper select the EnShiZhou,"the Selenium World" as the research object. Through the combination of theory research and empirical investigation, the method of qualitative and quantitative analysis, it describes the status of EnShiZhou various selenium-enriched industries, the strength and weakness of the selenium-enriched enterprises, and summarizes the development law of selenium-enriched agricultural economy. In the end, this paper makes conclusions and provides recommendations for the government, enterprises, and other actors.We can get some conclusions. Firstly, the EnShiZhou selenium-enriched agriculture has been enlarging with abundant selenium resources. There are the biggest selenium-enriched land and biosphere in EnShiZhou. The structure of selenium-enriched agriculture composed of farming, deep processing industry, high-tech industry, and tourism service about selenium has been modified. Ten kinds of selenium-enriched products emerge, such as selenium-enriched tea, vegetables, medicinal herbs and tobaccos with some famous brand, such as "EnShiYuLu","ShengFeng", etc. Secondly, the level of EnShiZhou selenium-enriched industries development needs to be upgraded. There is a relatively complete selenium-enriched industry system and a number of leading enterprises, well-known brands. But the development level of them is still low, for the enterprises are small; the deep processing technologies are few and no product standardization. The selenium-enriched industry value chain has not yet fully developed. So we should use more high technology to improve the industries and develop the high-tech industries such as bio-chemical industry. Thirdly, the selenium-enriched agriculture need national standard to exploit its potential. The selenium-enriched industries have long value chains and have potential to form industrial clusters, but are faced with some challenges. For example, there are no national standards to check the selenium-enriched products, the qualities of the products are spotty, and the enterprises need more capital, technology, and talent support.There are some suggestions about the selenium-enriched agriculture in EnShiZhou. At first, we should enhance the know-how publication and promotions of selenium to popularize it. And then, set standards for selenium-enriched products to ensure quality and safety. The enterprises should be promoted to lead the development of selenium-enriched agriculture. At last, we should protect the selenium resources and build the brand of natural selenium-enriched products.
