Analysis On The Status Of The Development Of New Scientific Achivements Evaluation Index: H-index

The index of h used to evaluate the contribution of science and technology, was put forward by Hirschin2005. In the beginning, it showed the success of scholars, then the function was expanded to theresearch teams, the journals and the achievement of the area or the countries. In the perspective ofScientometrics, based on the1096papers about h-index research during2006-2012from the WOS database,this research reveals the central issues and hot-topics in this field. This paper:(a) draws the general pictureabout the h-index research through the method of word frequency analysis and shows the tendency of itsdeveloping, based on the soft of bibexcel;(b) calculates the strengths among the keywords and finds thekeen links, according to the S-index and J-index;(c) reports the consociations in the field of h-index study,based on the soft of CiteSpace; and (d) compares the differences between domestic and abroad, in theviews of theoretical and empirical.This study finds that: there is a strong vitality and lively vigor in the area of h-index, depending on thedata of outcome, the influence of the h-index itself and the support institutions and countries. However, asthe background of the scholars are different, the research of h-index shows the character ofmultidisciplinary. Along with the revising and completing, it has formed a system of scientific evaluationand benefit the development of branches of learning. The research also finds that: the influence of thejournals attracts more attentions of scholars, so the dynamism of h-index in journal-evaluation has beenvalued; the collaboration has become increasingly important, especially the cooperation among theinstitutions and countries; and the scholars come from China participate in this progression actively, whichshould encourage and improve. The effectiveness of the h-index applies not only to the science and technology assessment, but also displays on tracking the focal points of the subjects and finding theinterdisciplinary. The contribution of this study is to: draw the picture of h-index in the past7years in thewhole world and show the trend of its development; and provide the evidence for emphasizing theimportance of work together and one method of find research topic. It is useful for h-index study itself andother subject.
