With the emergence of concepts including smart earth, smart city and others, tourism in China is transforming and upgrading toward a higher level. Tourist economy needs to be transformed into modern service industry and intelligent tourism is an irresistible trend for sustainable development. Customized tourism, which represents a brand new travel and tourist spending mode, is increasingly drawing attention from the public after entering the era of intelligent tourism. Customized tourism is different from traditional one as it boasts distinguished features and apparent competitive edge. It has become a task urgently needed to be tackled for modern tourism to solve the problems existing in the customized tourism and complete the transformation from traditional to modern.With several research methods such as document analysis, comparative analysis, demonstration analysis and survey study, and on the basis of tourism functional system theory, consumer behavior theory, intelligent tourism theory, customization theory, and mass customization theory, this paper firstly discusses the definition of customized tourism, analyzes its basic feature, shows the status quo, and points out many problems such as heavy reliance on technology, slightly high cost of service, difficulty of volume production, lagging tourism service and poor access for tourists to get involved. Secondly, author of this paper indicates that tourism in China can realize the transformation toward customized type by changing the role and positioning of tourists, the way tourism company serves, its marketing strategy and the management method. Besides, the author points out that innovation should be made for technology platform of the customized tourism in China from three aspects, namely, the technology platforms of supplier, demander and industrial management, additionally, the author comes up with two innovative development modes of customized tourism, one is for the public and the other is for production. At last, with development prediction for product suppliers and consumer market in the customized tourism, and statement for the reliance on new media and network technology, the author gives a visionary prediction to the prospect of customized tourism in our country. This paper, no matter for proposing tourism theory or setting tourism practice, for service suppliers or tourists, can be a profound theoretical direction and practical example.
