Transportation Infrastructure, Growth Effect And Residents’ Consumption

Chinese economy now has entered a well-recognized key phase since a long-time high-speed development. In the past few years, the economic growth was based on a large amount of resource consumption. This called rude growth lowered the quality of economy and the possibility of residents consumption. Residents consumption, as one of the important force to motive national economy, however, is lack of driving force, which obviously goes against implementing the strategy on transforming the mode of economic development. Therefore, it is a significant need to research influential factors of residents consumption, and explore new ways to stimulate it.Seen from the past development, transportation infrastructure construction as an important part of national infrastructure, plays a positive role in improving economic and social development as well as residents living standard. China puts more efforts on transportation infrastructure construction under the policy of reform and opening-up, which as a result has seen a great development not only in quantity but also quality of the transportation infrastructure. The construction of expressway and high-speed railway has caught up with and even surpass many countries. With the rapid transportation development, people has paid more attention to the importance of transportation infrastructure construction. It makes a big difference in national and regional economic development, in addition, it has influence on residential life in terms of micro level. Residents consumption, as a key factor to measure living standard, will see new changes whilst the development of transportation infrastructure. Therefore, in terms of economic effect, the research on influential relationship between transportation infrastructure construction and residents consumption plays an important role in exploring new ways to stimulate residents consumption.This paper, based on empirical study, is to do further research on how resident consumption influenced by transportation infrastructure construction. It is going to present the background and significance of that influence, analyze the status and feature of residents consumption and transportation infrastructure construction,’and summarize how the influence works. In accordance with national circumstance and theoretical analysis, this research is discussed in two categories, one based on time-line and the other based on region. There are three methods used to analyze the data, mixed regression, fixed effect model and random effect model. On account of the analysis, it gets two conclusions:1. Transportation infrastructure construction plays positive role on residents consumption, which will see some changes as time goes on.2. There exists regional differences regarding this influence, the west has more influence than the east and the middle. At the end, this paper lists some advice on the quality of transportation infrastructure and regional differences.
