With the help of the co-operation of various departments of the national economy, our country’s economy has been growing steadily, in which transportation industry plays an important supporting role. The development of transportation industry will promote the healthy development of many other industries which is crucial to the national economy. However, the transportation industry nowadays underscores a prominent problem, that is the cost of transportation is much higher than developed countries. And this is a liability to not only the efficiency of commodity circulation but also the price stability.The benign development of the transportation industry can not be achieved without the construction of transport infrastructure. With the improvement of transport infrastructure, our country’s economy in all aspects is improved, such as the promotion of GDP and regional economic integration. It is a remarkable fact that transport infrastructure will have an influence on the transport efficiency and transport cost. Further more, the impact of different kinds of infrastructure in various areas become an important problem. So, to explore a new method of transportation cost reduction from the perspective of transport infrastructure has a certain practical significance.This paper analyses the role channels which transport infrastructure affects transport cost. Through theoretical and empirical analysis, we explore the different impact of all kinds of transport infrastructure in various areas, which we called categories difference and regional difference. Then we try to improve the present pattern of China’s current transport infrastructure. The paper first puts forward the research significance and then finds some current problems from the perspective of the current situation of transport infrastructure. Furthermore, we explore the mechanism of the transport infrastructure affects the cost of transportation and put forward some assumptions based on it. In the empirical analysis, we use the three normal measurement methods of panel data, mixed regression, fixed effects model, random effects model to test the model. We get the following conclusions through theoretical and empirical analysis. First, transport infrastructure itself has a promoting impact on the declining of the cost of transportation. Second, the promotion of the road infrastructure on the decline of the cost of transportation is smaller than the railway infrastructure. Third, among the road infrastructure, the promotion of classified road is smaller than the substandard road. Fourth, the promoting impact of transport infrastructure in the mid-western area is smaller than the eastern area. Fifth, the promoting impact of classified road including highways in the mid-western area is bigger than in the eastern areas, while the impact of substandard road on the contrary. At last, based on empirical results and our country’s specific conditions, we put forward policy suggestions such as the government should not only pay attention to the total amount of transport infrastructure, but also attach great importance to the structure rationalization of transport infrastructure, change the situation of road toll, balance regional development.
