As an important sector of the national economy the equipment manufacturing industry is a pillar industry in the development of industry, the development of equipment manufacturing industry is related to a country or a region’s comprehensive strength and international competitiveness. Henan province has developed the equipment manufacturing industry for a long time,and it occupied a pivotal position in history.however, in recent years, with the deepening of the reform and opening up, the advantage is not obvious in the field of equipment manufacturing industry in henan province. There are kinds of restricting factors here, such as old equipment, technology, insufficient funds and so on. In the new historical period, therefore, it is an urgent problem to be solved to seize the opportunity of the rise of central China and the central plains economic zone construction, and play to the advantages in the field of equipment manufacturing industry in henan province, and improv the competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in henan province in the process of industrialization.In this paper, first of all, it makes a simple statement to the theory, including the equipment manufacturing industry and the relevant theories of industry competitiveness; Secondly, it makes a simple description to the present situation of the equipment manufacturing industry in henan province.
