With the life quality improvement around Poyang Lake rural region, the socialand economical status have developed. Compared with the past, the pursuit of simplelivelihoods was taken place by the pursuit of the better living environment, theecological awareness in rural area is continue to strengthen, population density isrising, resources have been exploiting in an unprecedented speed, ecologicalenvironment is damaged by human activities, so the land degradation is one of theresult of human activities, one of the negative effect of land degradation is theunsustainable of agricultural production, for those people living in vulnerableenvironment, limited natural resources itself can hardly keep up with rising population,along with various challenges caused by environmental impact, make ruralhouseholds livelihoods more difficult, then form the situation that natural ecology andhouseholds livelihoods restrict each other, no matter to the ecology or to the ruralhouseholds, it troubles the regional development. So sustainable and coordinateddevelopment cannot achieve without ecology protection, compared with the past, weshould pay more attention to the ecological civilization and sustainable utilization ofnatural resources.We now face challenges of population, environment and resources, in manydeserted area, land degradation and desertification are invading homes, land, soil,water and living space are taken place by desert, in recent years, the desertificationphenomenon is also appeared in southern wet area such as Poyang Lake area, we haveto pay attention to them, only by rural households’ efforts in sandy land restoration isnot enough, but also need efforts from various social groups, the farmers living indesertification area is the contact point between natural environment and humanactivities, the research in rural households’ livelihoods has significant meaning in thesandy land management.This paper choose rural households as research perspective, based on PoyangLake degraded area economy, population, policy, through questionnaire and interview,we collect information about interaction between rural households behavior and sandyland. Through quantitative and quantitative analysis, to explain the social andecological benefits to the Poyang Lake region. Through the analysis, to discuss thelong term methods in sandy land management, to put forward proposals in sandy landmanagement based on rural households behavior.First Part, introduce the background and research objects, summarize the mainidea of the thesis and innovation, introduce the research approaches and technicalroute. Second Part, introduce the relevant study in ecology protection and humanbehavior, compare the differences in of Poyang lake and northern sandy landmanagement, analysis current research and their weakness.Third Part, describe the survey, and basic condition of research area, analyse thenatural and social environment, use method to analyze demographic character of ruralhouseholds, use regression method to find factor which influence rural households’behavior, use buffer rings to analyse spatial distribution of behavior, use sustainablelivelihoods approach to construct a index series, use production function to analysethe best combination of farmers labor, the case study help us analyse the influences,and ways to improve.Forth Part, analyze current problems in sandy land management around PoyangLake in the aspect of rural households, the paper propose suggestions in differentgroups, and in the political level.Fifth Part, summarize the conclusion of rural households’ behavior, includebehavior differences, sustainable livelihoods ability, labor distribution, awareness, andthe management effects in rural households, explain clearly the direction of furtherresearch.
