Urban land is the most frequent and concentrated region of human activities, as well as the basic carrier of urban development. Urban development has become the theme of global progress in21st century. Jincheng main city is the core area of politics, economy and culture in Jincheng city. With the expansion of urban space scale, the contradiction between construction land occupation and farmland protection has become increasingly prominent. Therefore it may provide scientific decision-making references on Jincheng city by the depth analysis on expansion evolution, the discussion about the driving forces on space expansion, and the corresponding suggestions of rational urban expansion. The main analysis in this paper include:(1) the status of urban land use in Jincheng main city in2007, on the basis of domestic and foreign research results;(2) the spatial and quantity changes of urban land expansion by expansion indicators in1985-2007;(3) the driving forces of urban land expansion, on the one hand the correlation analysis between urban land expansion and the driving factors (natural condition, economic development, social progress and city planning), and on the other hand the establishment of the index system of driving factors and the multiple linear regression model on urban land expansion;(4) the current problems and relevant suggestions.Conclusions:(1)In1985-2007, the scale of Jincheng main city had been continuously growing in the form of spreading circle, the barycenter of the urban land had been generally migrated to southeast, the fragmentation degree of the patches had been constantly intensified and the morphological structures had been increasingly complicated.(2)ln1985-2007, Jincheng main city had successively experienced a high-speed expansion, steady expansion, low-expansion, high-speed expansion, steady expansion phase.(3)We had found such problems like over-speed expansion, inefficiently utilization, structural irrationality in the expansion progress and the mismatch between expansion scale and urbanization level during the study period.(4)The urban land expansion of Jincheng main city suffered the combined influences of natural condition, economic development, social progress and city planning; the main driving factors of expansion are GDP, per capita GDP, fixed asset investment, the total proportion of secondary and tertiary industry, highway mileage, the expenditure for city maintenance, non-agricultural population, per capita disposable income of urban residents and the total retail sales of social commodities; the multiple linear regression model is: Y=0.01X,-0.055X3+0.135X4+0.001X6+5.24X7+0.576X8-0.03X10-10.488(5)We had proposed several rational suggestion as follows:keep the fixed asset investment and infrastructure investment in the reasonable extent to guide an orderly urban expansion; focus on the combine of new urban expansion and old city reconstruction to optimize the space structure; optimize the regional industrial structure to enhance the urban comprehensive competitiveness; continuously strengthen the regulation and control on real estate and residential land scale.
