Inemationalengineeringcontractingisanimportantfoimofforeigneconomiccooperati ontoChina.Accordingto2013annualENRrankingstatistics,atotalof250thelargestinternatio nalcontractorscompletedoverseasrevenueofUSD511.05billion.55Chinesemainlandcomp anieswereincludedinthislistandcompletedoverseasrevenueUSD67.175billion,accounting fororly13%of250contractors’ totalrevenuefromprojectsoutoftheirhomecountries.Ourinter nationalcontractingindustryisfacingtheseriousproblemasfollows:howtoimprovetheintern ationallevelofChineseinternationalcontractorsandtheintemationalcompetitiveness,howt odevelopmoreoptimizedinternationalizationstrategythatadaptsotheglobalmarket,andhow toparticipateactivelyinhigh-levelinternationalcompetitiontocatchupwithinternationalcont ractorsfromdevelopedcountries.Thispaperanalyzedthecharacteristicsanddevelopmentstatusoftheinternationalcontrac tingmarketandthedevelopmentofChinesecontractors’internationalization-ThroughSWOT analysis,thispaperpointedoutthestrengths,weaknesses,opportunitiesandthreatsforChinese contractorsinintemationalcompetition,andproposedcountermeasuresfortheirinternational strategytoimprovetheinternationalcompetitiveness.Finally, the paper studied China State Construction Engineering Corporation’s international strategy and its internationalization route map, which not only reflects the status of the internationalization of Chinese engineering industry, but also provides references for the international strategy of other Chinese contractors.AccordingtooverallsituationandspecificcasestudyonChinesecontractors,inordertosol vetheproblemthatChinesecontractorslagbehindthoseofdevelopedcountriesininternational competitiveness,thispaperproposedcountermeasuresfortheirinternationalstrategyfrombot htheirownperspectiveandgovernmentperspective.TheresultsindicatethatifChinesecontractorscanconstantlyoptimizetheirinternationali zationstrategyandadjustthespecificcountermeasuresdynamicallybasedonmarketandtheiro wnconditions, theywillrealizetheobjectivetoimprovetheirintemationallevelandinternationalcompetitive nessverysoontocatchupwiththecontractorsfromdevelopedcountries.
