China’s rapid urbanization process is accompanied by severe carbon emissions, thebad effects of climate change, and bearing enormous pressure at home and abroad. However, it is the basic national conditions that urbanization is the only way for China’smodernization. It’s very urgent that China’s urbanization should change developmentmode, break the chain effect of urbanization construction and carbon emissions, andexplore the low-carbon development mode.Based on the component element of urban construction carbon emissions, the thesisresearches the correlation and function principle of urbanization and carbon emissions, and analyzes the key factors that affects carbon emissions. A model named STIRPAT,which reflects the relations between carbon emissions and urbanization, is put forward. The thesis makes an empirical research of the mode through analyzing the urbanizationconstruction of Cheng Yang district, and analyzes the degree that urbanization, population, economic development and energy intensity impact on carbon emissions. By dividing theurbanization into two stages, the thesis analyzes the key factors of different stages, andputs forward the optimized mode for Cheng Yang urbanization.Through the analysis of the model, the thesis concludes that the population, GDP percapita, and energy intensity have remarkable impacts on the urban carbon emissions, andthe inflection point of CKC curve does not exist. It also concludes that populationurbanization rate has remarkable negative impacts on urban carbon emissions, and itscontribution to carbon emissions is from high to low. In the early stage of urbanization, thekey factor affecting carbon emissions is population, while in the speeding up process, thekey factor is the energy efficiency. Urban low carbon construction and development ofCheng Yang district should be in accordance with the research results while choosingdevelopment mode and establishing corresponding building mechanism.
