The Empirical Research Of Open Strategy’s Influence On China’s Urbanization Process

It is universally accepted that urbanization it the outcome of successfulindustrialization. Using panel data model，this paper reviews China’s urbanization processfrom a different perspective, at odds with traditional theory. On the basis of the empiricalfindings, it could be safely concluded that over the period1998-2009, apart from theinfluence of the GDP per capita, open strategy also has an conspicuous impact on China’surbanization. Moreover, there is a close relationship between the development ofurbanization and the extent of China’s open strategy, both geographically andchronologically.Therefore, China’s urbanization development is not merely the upshot of successfulindustrialization and policy. Due to the expansion of foreign trade and aggressiveintroduction of local governments, the force of globalization deeply change the allocationand efficiency of China’s resources. Open strategy plays an important role in thedevelopment of urbanization, and determine the difference of urbanization’s level to someextent. In the meantime, as part of more closely related global division network, China’surbanization’s influence is ever-more paramount in the process of opening to the outsideworld. In the face of entry to WTO in2001, the relationship between China and othercountries becomes closer and closer, which tellingly accelerates the course of China’surbanization. And it is the different degree of various China’s regions to openness thatdetermine the different urbanization speed in each region.This implies that:1. It is necessary to adhere to open strategy in the process ofpushing forward urbanization and seek opportunities worldwide to promote thedevelopment of cities on the basis of individual comparative advantages.2. For eastregion’s position in the global industry trade is gradually fixed, the variation of futurecentral and western regions’s urbanization is more impacted by the international effectsand in particular they should attend to sort out their positions in the global environmentwhen driving the course of urbanization.
