The Application Of Six Sigma Method In Fiber Fabrications

Six Sigma management is a customer-driven process improvementmethodology system pursuing excellent performance and continualimprovement. Taking products and the continual improvement as its basicstrategy, through the systemic integration of conception, culture andmethodology system, it may awfully eliminate the flaws andnon-value-added operations, minimize the cost, and create perfect valuefor customers. It aims to pursue excellent performance as well as thecomplete satisfaction of customers, and improve the competitive power andprofits of the enterprise.Six Sigma management includes the Six Sigma improvement and Six Sigmadesign, and the former is the most important means to implement Six Sigmamanagement. Six Sigma optimizes the process with the “D-M-A-I-C” methodbased on the in-depth understanding of its essence. The whole managementis divided into the following five steps: Define, Measure, Analyze,Improve and Control.The paper introduced the application of DMAIC of Six Sigma in fibrefabrication. Firstly, it briefly described the fundamental principle ofDMAIC of Six Sigma; secondly, applied the DMAIC method in the projectsof “the improvement of coating quality during high speed fiber drawing”and “the gas flow improvement of the fiber drawing furnace” of X FibreCompany (hereinafter called as A Company). By analyzing the datum of thecases, we’ll discover the main quality problems so as to improve the fibreproduction ratio. To find the main factors influencing the fibreproduction ratio by Plato, analyze the main reasons of the problems bymeans of the brainstorm and table-listing method, and finally determinethe optimal process parameters with the DOE experiment method to improvethe quality. By defining the scope of the projects, through the steps ofmeasurement, analysis, improvement and control, with the method ofcombining theory with practice, the paper clearly described theapplication of DMAIC of Six Sigma theory in A company; from theexperimental results, we witnessed an obvious improvement.
