In recent years, with the introduction of relevant laws and regulations, relevant economic system continues to improve, the relevant government regulatory deepening of the socialist market economy matures, and the market competition is increasing day by day. Inevitably, the construction industry’s profit margins are declining, companies generally want to reduce costs by increasing their level of construction technology and project management, so as to make a profit and enhance market competitiveness. Currently, most building companies still follow the traditional materials procurement and inventory management measures, so their management level is generally not high. The qualities of materials reduce the project’s quality, the timely supplies of materials have an effect on the construction schedule, and much inventory takes up a large number of enterprise funds. That is to say, the inventories management and construction materials procurement still have big loopholes, there is great room for improving management and increasing profits. Therefore, construction companies are eager to find more appropriate and efficient inventory management measures, then they can discover new "source of profit" by improving materials management level. In order to change this situation, the paper analyzed the traditional manufacturing industries, learned their advanced logistics management concepts and efficient logistics management approach. Applied these ideas and methods to the management of building materials procurement and inventories management, by combined with the characteristics of the construction industry. So the enterprises can improve the management level of building materials procurement, improve production efficiency, reduce production costs and enhance their competitiveness. Therefore, the article had a research and analysis of construction materials management from the three major aspects of construction enterprises, which was materials procurement management, materials business category management, and materials inventory management.Specifically speaking, this paper firstly studies the characteristics of material procurement and production of the traditional manufacturing industries, compared and analyzed the characteristics of the construction industry. Then it defines engineering procurement and describes its scope and characteristics, and research the distinguishing feature of purchasing management of the building corporations. Secondly, on the basis of materials purchasing management research of the construction enterprises, using three types of inventory management methods as a criterion for the procuring supplies, the construction materials are divided into three categories by the use of fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. The categories are the C1 class of materials for traditional inventory management methods, the C2 class of materials for VMI inventory management methods, and the C3 class of materials for JMI inventory management methods. And the characteristics of each category of materials were summarized. Thirdly, on the basis of materials classification, the paper makes an Inventory Management Research of building enterprises. For construction companies, paper makes a specific implementation research to traditional inventory management strategy, to VMI inventory management strategy, to JMI inventory management strategy. Finally, case studies of specific projects, confirmed applicability of the materials procuring management researches, applicability of classification of materials management researches, usability of materials inventory management researches for the building enterprises. Then the corresponding research achievements were summarized ultimately.
