Under the background of global economic integration,the competition among enterprises is getting bigger and bigger nowadays.In order to gain an advantageous position in the fierce competition,enterprises must constantly reduce production and operation costs.It is more and more difficult to reduce the operating costs of individual enterprises.Therefore,people have turned their attention to the optimization of the whole supply chain,and enterprises have realized that in the contemporary market the competition between enterprises has changed into supply chains,so more and more people has been paid attention to the supply chain management.Supply chain management has become a new focus of attention in academia and business circles.Inventory management is one of the important components of supply chain management.Under the traditional inventory management model,enterprises implement their own inventory management strategies,which results in the amplification of demand distortions,i.e.the so-called"ullwhip effect",which is the reduction of the overall competitiveness of the supply chain.In order to improve competitiveness and reduce the "bullwhip effect",various enterprises have focused on a new inventory management model,namely vendor management inventory(VMI).VMI model is an inventory management model based on supply chain management,which fully embodies the idea of integrated supply chain management.It mainly emphasizes the cooperation and common profit between upstream and downstream enterprises in the supply chain.Compared with the traditional inventory management mode in which suppliers arrange production and replenish according to customer orders,in the mode of supplier-managed inventory,suppliers formulate inventory strategy according to the actual situation of supply chain.Through information sharing,suppliers can obtain the current inventory status,actual production consumption and future of customers.Demand forecasting,based on which to formulate a reasonable replenishment strategy and replenishment.Compared with the traditional inventory management mode,in this mode,information is more transparent and suppliers can get demand information more timely,which makes suppliers more quickly respond to market changes,effectively suppress the "bullwhip effect",and effectively improve the overall operation efficiency and market competitiveness of the supply chain.High total inventory,high storage pressure,sluggish inventory and low inventory turnover are the main problems that manufacturing industry meets in the traditional inventory management model,which greatly occupies the liquidity of enterprises and affects the supply of production,and ultimately leads to the disadvantage of these enterprises in the market competition.Under the background of market competition,if these enterprises want to gain competitive advantage,they need to optimize and improve their inventory management,reduce costs,meet production needs and improve their core competitiveness.Firstly,this paper analyzes the research background and significance of VMI.Based on the introduction of relevant theories of inventory management,this paper introduces and analyzes the features,advantages and operation process of VMI.Then,taking X company which is a PC manufacturing enterprise as the research object,firstly know the basic situation of X company,then makes an in-depth analysis of its VMI status,points out the problems existing in X company's current inventory management,such as the target is not clear,easily affected by the market supply,the implementation of VMI suppliers and less material single variety,large in stock and inventory amount is higher an so on,and then to solve these problems is proposed for optimization of X company.Based on VMI optimization scheme of X company,has been clear about the implementation of the target,choose the appropriate mode,the implementation of the design of the operation process is more reasonable,and the raw material choice,the choice of suppliers,the agreement set and information system construction and supplier incentive optimization scheme is put forward,and design a guarantee scheme.In this paper,through in-depth analysis of the implementation status of VMI in X company,we can provide direction for improvement of VMI mode in X company,and provide reference for enterprises that adopt VMI mode to improve inventory management in PC manufacturing industry and similar electronic manufacturing industry.
