Rail transit construction of our country has made outstanding achievements in recent years. The network of high-speed railway emerges, the construction investment of the railway remains a high level, the inter-city railway becomes the focus of railway construction, and massive urban rail transit construction is carried on. The rapid development of the railway construction offers a good opportunity for the companies which are engaged in rail transit designing. As for A Rail Transit Designing Institute Company Ltd.(hereinafter referred as A Company), challenges of increasingly tough market competition and poor overall strength of the company also arise. And the company is in great need of proper development strategy pointing out the development goal and main business lines and takes development measures to enhance its competitiveness. In this thesis the macro environment, the industry circumstance and the internal capability of A company are analyzed, and the strength, the weakness, the opportunity and the threat of the company are found out, and its competitive strategy, development strategy and measures are presented. Major research work is as follows:1.PEST analysis is conducted to analyze macro environment and its influence on the development and the industry circumstance of A company. With the progress of China’s reform and opening up, the political environment will be improved, the rate of economic grow will remain a high level, the railway construction investment is tending towards stability, the inter-city railway becomes the focus of railway construction, massive urban rail transit construction is carried on and southwest region is in great need of rail transit which offer a good opportunity for the company.2.Porter’s Five Forces Model is used to analyze the market competition environment and it shows that A company should establish close contact with the universities, bargaining power of buyers of customers is limited, the threat of new entrants can be ignored as the high industry barrier, the threat of substitute products can be ignored because of the characteristic of the product and the companies in the field can be divided into three echelons and their market shares are estimated.3.The internal capability of the company is analyzed and SWOT analysis is carried out and the strength, the weakness, the opportunity and the threat of the company are found out and the measures are put forward. The focus differentiation strategy is proposed as the competitive strategy of the company which consists of product differentiation, area differentiation and market development differentiation including differentiated competition and joint development. The development strategy of the company including the vision, the strategic target and business strategy are presented and the functional strategies are analyzed based on Mckinsey 7S Model.
