Under the guidance of national strategic that Chinese government encourages enterprises to "going out", Chinese enterprises continue to increase the intensity of OFDI (Outward Foreign Direct Investment), and constantly expand the scale, breadth and depth of their Outward foreign direct investment. China gradually transforms from a recipient to an investor of foreign direct investment (FDI).Due to the historical particularity of social development, there have been two main types of enterprises-state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in the process of Chinese economic development. In the early stages of OFDI development, the state-owned enterprises have been dominated. Now it becomes the model of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises keeping pace with each others. The proportion of the private enterprises in OFDI flows has been increasing, and the private enterprises have become the main force of Chinese OFDI day by day. Because there are many different factors, like the system, the development foundation, the development history and so on, the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in OFDI exhibit different characteristics, there have a very important practical significance for the comparative study of the two types of enterprises OFDI activities.Based on the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises historical differences, this thesis takes OFDI cases of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises as samples of the comparative research, and lunches a comparative study on the characteristics of their own OFDI and analyzes the reasons of these two types enterprises’s successful and failing OFDI combining typical practice cases. The paper studies the strengths and weaknesses of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in OFDI activities. On the basis of summing up their OFDI experiences and lessons, the future policy strategies that the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises strengthen cooperation in OFDI to enhance the overall strength of Chinese enterprises OFDI are discussed.Firstly, this thesis reviews the mainstream theory of foreign direct investment (FDI), and especially the theories of FDI from developing countries. And it generalizes the related foreign and domestic research for Chinese enterprises OFDI, and especially conducts a comprehensive overview on the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI studies, which forms the basis of the following discussion.After that, the paper introduces the development total process of Chinese enterprises OFDI, and the OFDI development process of state-owned enterprises and private enterprises respectively. And it studies the overall situation of Chinese OFDI, and the status of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI. Taking the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI activities as the objects of study, this paper makes the comparison between the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI from the aspects of investment scale, investment location, motivation, industry, entry mode and risk individually. Afterwards it selects typical cases of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI, and makes a comparative analysis on the successful and failing reasons of the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI.In addition, combining the results of the previous comparative study and the SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity, Threats) analysis about the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises OFDI, this thesis elaborats the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises respective competitive advantage (S), competitive disadvantage (W), opportunity (O) and threats (T) in OFDI aspects. Finally, the paper discusses development strategies that the state-owned enterprises and private enterprises strengthen cooperation in OFDI to enhance Chinese enterprises’overall OFDI strength in the future.
