As a strategic emerging industry, the Internet of Things industry has an important influence on the optimization of the industrial structure in China. Therefore, in the critical period of transformation of China’s industrial structure, it is need to combine the government support with enterprise research and development to promote the development of the Internet of Things industry in order to increase its efforts to support the industrial structure optimization. On the basis of related research, taking the optimization of the industrial structure theory, technology innovation theory, related industries theory and sustainable development theory as its the theoretical support, this paper puts forward the path of the Internet of Things industry development to promote the industrial structure optimization. Through the collation of data, this paper analyzed the current development of the Internet of Things industry and its core industries(RFID industry, sensor industry, M2 M, the cloud computing industry etc.), evolution tendency of three industry structure in our country and the internal structure of the three industries. Then, this paper constructed gray correlation analysis method to comprehensive analysis the overall relationship between the Internet of Things industry development and the three industrial development. Based on the overall degree of relevance, this paper re-use gray correlation model to carry on the empirical analysis between the Internet of Things industry and manufacturing industry, between the Internet of Things industry and the internal industry of the third industry. The results show that:The development of the Internet of Things industry has a significant role in promoting the optimization of the industrial structure in China. Through gray correlation method analysis, the gray associated degree between the Internet of Things industry and the tertiary industry is highest(0.7689), followed by the second industry(0.7538), the first industry lowest(0.6277). Therefore, the development of the Internet of Things industry can significantly promote China’s industrial structure toward to the ideal evolution situation which takes the second industry and tertiary industry as the main body.In addition, the average correlation between the Internet of Things industry and the manufacturing industry is 0.7902, and agricultural food processing industry, automobile manufacturing, general equipment manufacturing industry all are higher than 0.8000. It indicates that through its own technology infiltration, the Internet of Things industry can increase the added value of the manufacturing industry, and promote the transformation of manufacturing industry; the average correlation between the Internet of Things industry and the services industry is 0.6720, and the Internet of Things industry has a greater influence on finance, wholesale and retail, real estate industry. About scientific research, technical services and geological exploration industry, the average correlation were higher than 0.6900. It can be seen that the application of the Internet of things technology can effectively promote the fundamentals of the tertiary industry. From the correlation degree, we can see the support of the Internet of things for the optimization of industrial structure. But the support needs to be further improved, which requires the further development of the Internet of things industry, so as to better promote the optimization of industrial structure.According to the results of theoretical analysis and empirical analysis of industry structure optimization based on the development of the Internet of Things industry, this paper puts forward a series of countermeasures and suggestions: accelerating the integration of Internet of the Things industry and traditional industries; accelerating the development of tertiary industry; exploring the sustainable development model of the Internet of Things.
