Research On The Development Of Border Trade In Zhuang--Miao Autonomous Prefecture Of Wenshan In Yunnan

The economic and social development in border and minority areas is a part of national development which is also a part of ethnic, social,political and economic problems. The border trade plays an important role in the development of border and minority regions. To some extent,the border trade makes the border ethnic minorities strengthen the identity of the motherland, the Chinese nation, and the Chinese culture, while it also raises the scientific connotation of socialist national relations which includes “equality, solidarity, mutual assistance and harmony”. This paper,based on the empirical research of Wenshan, systematically discusses its border trade situation and problems.Since the Sino-Vietnam relationship was normalized, the border trade development of Wenshan Zhuang-Miao autonomous prefecture has been in the period of rising steadily. The border trade not only has become the main constituent of Wenshan foreign trade, but become the effective form of border minority areas to become rich from poverty. This paper, from the perspective of national development, tries discussing the past, present, dilemma, and solving countermeasures of Wenshan border trade with the methods of the field Investigation, case analysis and literature analysis. This paper preliminary describes the predicament of Wenshan border trade development, namely, a small economic volume,slow pace of development, irrationality in economic structure. We shouldtake measures from the following four areas including government’s guidance, capital investment, policy support and international cooperation to solve the predicament. In general, Wenshan border trade development still has a long way to go.
