Climate warming as the main characteristics of global climate change has become the most important environmental problem of modern society. The international community highly concerned. While, international trade activities in the context of global industrial division are thought to be closely related to climate warming. Paper products trade is international trade based on forest resources. Due to forest logging and carbon sequestration issues involved, paper products trade has particularity in the effect of carbon emissions. As a major maker and consumer of paper products, China’s paper products trade volume is huge. Especially in the case of papermaking raw materials, China imports a lot from abroad. This saves a lot of pulpwood in China, and then increases the domestic amount of forest carbon sequestration. Hence, China’s papermaking raw materials trade plays an important role in promoting the domestic carbon emissions reduction. The article firstly reviews the literature related to trade and carbon emission, and according to paper products trade’s particularity in affecting carbon emissions, decomposes the influence of paper products trade on carbon emissions into two aspects:papermaking raw materials trade and carbon emissions, paper and paper products trade and carbon emissions. From this, the article sets up the analysis frame of paper products trade and carbon emission transfer. Then, the article utilizes descriptive analysis method to research China’s paper products trade status, paper products export proportion of production and import substitution level of consumption, concluding China’s paper products trade has carbon reduction effect. On that basis, take China’s paper products trade data in 2013. The article utilizes the method of volume source biomass equation and net primary productivity (NPP) to calculate the carbon reduction effect of papermaking raw materials trade, and utilizes the method of terminal energy consumption to calculate the carbon emission effect of paper and paper products trade. Finally, the article concludes that:The carbon emission reduction effect of China’s papermaking raw materials trade is obvious and up to 17.8036 million tons. This is equal to the total volume of 172.2905 million cubic meters forest’s annual carbon sequestration. While carbon emission effect of paper and paper products trade is only 0.6580 million tons which is not significant compared with the former. In general, China’s paper products trade has significant carbon emission reduction effect which is 17.1456 million tons.Based on the above research, the article puts forward several policy proposals for scientific analysis of the influence of trade on carbon emissions, and the development of China’s paper products trade and papermaking industry under the low carbon economy background, such as comprehensive analysis of the impact of trade on China’s carbon emissions, higher level of import substitution of papermaking raw materials, higher recycling rate of waste paper, better papermaking technology, and reasonable energy structure.
