Development Strategies Of The Processing Industry Of Bamboo & Wood For Qingyuan County

Qingyuan County is one of the less developed counties in the southwest of Zhejiang Province. In recent years, the local economy has been flourishing under the supports of governments from both state and province, and with the achievements of both traffic conditions and municipal infrastructure. However, the local economy level is quite low when compared to the developed counties. The processing industry of bamboo & wood (PIBW) is one of the featured traditional advantage industries for Qingyuan. After more than 3 decades’ development, PIBW is now served as one of the pillar industries for Qingyuan’s industrial economy. In the past decade, PIBW in Qingyuan has achieved the most prosperous development stage and how to keep the healthy and stable development of PIBW and help it to play a continuous leading role in the future of the county’s industrial economic development are questions worth to pondering on. In this thesis, the history and actuality of PIBW of Qingyuan are investigated and analyzed for finding out, analyzing and solving the problems of local PIBW. Policy environment strategy technology (PEST) analysis is conducted to know the macro environment for the development of PIBW. Strengths weakness opportunities treats (SWOT) analysis is carried out to induce the advantages and disadvantages, the opportunities and challenges of PIBW in Qingyuan. Active positioning for the future and goal of the development of PIBW is proposed based on the results of PEST and SWOT analysis. The literatures are reviewed based on the collected theoretical materials, and the traditional and relevant theoretical basis is obtained, and theories of industrial agglomeration and value chains are used to guide the formation and implementation of the industry development strategies. To realize the development goal of industry agglomeration and upgrading of PIBW in Qingyuan, some development strategies are proposed. The strategies are the turnaround strategy companied by diversification strategy and industry agglomeration, brand, technical standards, talent and innovative research and development are the four major strategies. To implement these strategies, the important factors are the effective guiding role of government service, the main role of the enterprises in market, and the intermediary function of the industrial associations. The results and theories in this work could be significant for the less developed counties as for as their local leading industry development strategies.
