With the development of economic globalization,Chinese small and medium enterprises faces opportunity and challenges. Enterprises must improve their competitiveness to survive and develop. As an advanced management technique, PDM plays an important role in reducing the cost of product design, improving product data management, the efficiency of product design and the quality of products. In this paper, take a mechanical and electrical enterprise as an object, to study the implementation and application of PDM.The main research results are as follows:1. Based on the present conditions, choosing EPDM as the implementation system software. And hardware, software and network was configured according to the requirement of EPDM system to help enterprises set up an integrated platform which the users can manage data on line.2. Methods of manual input, attribute mapping, information automatic extraction based on workflow and information extraction from parts group were used to solve the problem of document management according to their application and different requirement of management. Methods of marking by automatic version number based on workflow, marking by image based on reference function, establishing a virtual folder for multi view management and packing version data were used to meet the demand of document version identification and traceability, multi view version management and version management oriented configuration.3. Not only the data management function and system customized function of the PDM system, but also group technology of parts classification method were used to establish the classification retrieval system of parts, so that reasonable classified parts can be achieved to solve the problem of parts management, data retrieval and data reuse.4.Due to the difficulty in implementation of product standard control caused by time-consuming heavy workload during statistical analysis of part spectrum, using the quantitative evaluation methods to analysis topology, parameters, shape, material, heat treatment, blank shape and precision features of parts and so that can assess the similarity of parts. Then use the method of conflict resolution on multi objective decision making to solve the problem of parts parameters standardization.5. In order to solve the problem of manufacturing knowledge retrieval and evaluation, the method of establishing manufacturability knowledge vault based on the characteristics of parts and the method of manufacturing knowledge instant check based on classification code were adopted. On the other hand, this thesis adapts the method of establishing assembly classification system to solve the problem of manual handling, inserting and fixing time evaluation in the assembly operation. Finally, the method of application of DFMA in the PDM was used to solve the problem of collaboration between design and manufacturing.
